Implant Dentistry

Dr. Domaas attended “Restoratively Driven Esthetic Implant Dentistry” continuing education on September 22 2011.

Implant dentistry has evolved rapidly.  Restorative dentists have many options to offer patients.  This program educates dentists in the latest techniques to produce esthetically pleasing results for every patient.  Attendees were instructed on the different implant systems available and the restorative options that are available.  Participants explored the team relationship between the dentist, surgeon, and dental laboratory.  Dr. Matthew Hopfensperger from the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry was the guest speaker.

X-Ray Vision

Several of our patients received a chain e-mail referring to a segment on the Dr. Oz Show that recommended wearing a thyroid guard while receiving dental x-rays and mammograms. Some of those patients have asked us if dental x-rays really increase one’s risk of developing cancer. In April 2011, the American College of Radiology and the Society of Breast Imaging issued a statement disclaiming the notion of a risk.

In dentistry, taking films is the best diagnostic tool. Films detect problems before they become obvious or cause symptoms. At Brook West, we utilize digital films rather than old-fashioned x-rays to reduce our patients’ exposure to radiation and eliminate the use of harmful developer and fixer chemicals. If you are concerned, let us know. We would be happy to use a thyroid guard when taking your dental films. At Brook West, our priority is always your comfort and safety.
